We Have Been Working With The University Of Cape Town And The University Of Oxford In Support Of Their Research With Teenage Advisory Boards Or Adolescent Advisory Boards In The Context Of Hiv/AIDS And Young People Who Are Parents In The Western And Eastern Cape, South Africa And Kisimu, Kenya.

Our Specific Responsibilities Include: Designing And Facilitating Participatory Workshops; Designing Research That Is More Sensitive To And Lead By Young People As Co-Researchers; Designing Online Research Tools In Response To Young People’s Experiences Of Covid19 And Its Accompanying Social Dynamics And Designing Various Visual Tools (I.E. Photography, Videography And Murals).


Interfer Has Been Working With VOCAL (University Of Manchester), Wowbagger Productions And DBT Alliance To Produce An Innovative Nine-Part Webcomic, Planet DIVOC-91. You Can Now See The First Chapter On  Webtoon. Our Aim Is To Inspire Audiences, Create A New Forum For Discussion, And Ultimately, To Inform Scientific Research And Policy.

The Project Is A Huge Collaborative Effort, With Stories And Artwork From Acclaimed Comic Creators, Articles From Young People And The Involvement Of Scientists And Researchers From A Wide Range Of Disciplines Spanning Infectious Diseases, Behavioural Sciences, Health Economy, Health Inequalities And More. Young People Have Been Interviewing Experts For The Comic, So Far They’ve Spoken To The UK’s Chief Scientific Advisor Sir Patrick Vallance, And Researchers From Public Health, Immunology And Social History.

The Comic Is A Sci-Fi Satire In Which All Young Adults Between The Age Of 16-25 Have Been Transported To Planet DIVOC-91. In The Story, 23 Year Old Sanda Learns That The Earth Is At Risk Of An Extinction Level Event. All Young Adults Have Been Moved To Safety By The Board Of Adversity Scientists For Intergalactic Leadership’ (BASIL), Led By A Charismatic And Fearsome Alien Named Ardo. The Comic Chapters Are Being Created Over The Next Few Months, So The Story Will Be Informed By The Real World Of COVID-19. 

The Project Will Share Young People’s Thoughts And Views About Pandemics And Related Research, Feed Into Scientific Research And Policy, As Well As Inspire And Challenge Our Research Communities To Think About The Best Ways Of Actively Involving Young Adults In Ongoing And Future Research.

Public Murals And Festivals To Combat Stigma And Discrimination Associated With Mental Health. 

Arting Health For Impact Was A Collaborative Mental Well-Being Visual Arts Project Independently Implemented In South Africa, Botswana (Infers Group) And India (DBT Alliance), Funded By The Wellcome Trust. Interfer’s Arting Health For Impact Component Of The Project Focused On Participatory Storytelling And Design Between Young Adult In-Patients At The Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital, Senior Clinicians And Hospital Staff And Local Artists. The Project Was Focused On Mental Wellbeing, Destigmatization And Participatory Storytelling And Festival Design.

Young Persons Who Use Mental Health Services, Clinicians And Clinical Staff (Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Nurses And Clinical Security) And Street Artists In The Western Cape Were Engaged In A Participatory Co-Design Process. This Collective Worked Together To Design A Large Public Mural And A Festival On The Premises Of The Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital.


Gratitude To The Support Of Fok Alles, Jack De Jong, Prefix66, Jitsvinger, Chris Moyce, Bianca Van Rooi, Dr John Parker & Dr Rene Nassen For Joining Forces And Supporting This Incredible And Necessary Venture.


We Were Contracted By The Philippi Village To Design And Implement A Participatory Storytelling Process With 60 Persons –  Including Local Young People, Siyangena Residents And Phillipi Village Tenants And Entrepreneurs – To Tell The Story Of The Establishment Of Siyangena, A Local Community Bordering The Philippi Village.

We Developed And Painted A 250m Long Mural That Presents Siyangena As A Personified Fictional Character, Called Thembi. This Wall Tells Thembi’s Story From Inception Amidst Police Brutality, Eviction, Self-Actualization And Hopes Of Partnerships To Future Aspirations And Possibilities For Thembi.

This Project Was Done In Collab With FOK, Bushywopp, Nard, Robane Art, Skubalisto, Breeze Yoko, Love And Eleganza VI.


PayGas (Pty). Ltd. Is A LPG Retailer, That Provides Gas For Clients Through A Cashless Technology Allowing Customers To Fill Their Gas Cylinders With The Gas Quantity They Want To Consume (As Opposed To Purchasing The Full Cylinder).


In Collab With FOK & @Loveleighsa  We Developed Murals Around The Vicinity Of Their Premises After Engaging With PayGas Staff And Partners


Swallowing The World Is A Curatorial Project And General Conversation Between Artists, Scientists, And Academics With The Intention To Narrate And Distil The Intricate Social, Political And Ethical Issues Related To Tuberculosis (TB) To A General Audience.

The Project Investigated And Presented The Subjective Experiences Of TB Patients And Their Families, Medical Science And Its Practitioners, The Country’s History And Political Economy Etc. To Explore Questions And Challenge Assumptions Around TB From The Standpoint Of Art And Creativity. 

Interfer Collaborated With Conform, Marti Lund, Two.Che And Chris Moyce To Produce Murals On The Premises Of The University Of Cape Town And Muizenberg Beachfront To Explore And Challenge Assumptions Around TB.
